newtonmore village

The village grew with the tourist boom in the Victorian age and as a result of the rail link, where the wealthy would come for the shooting and hunting season.  Tourists and holiday makers have continued to enjoy the beautiful Scottish highlands and countryside there, where a diversity of culture and history is available alongside many kinds of outdoor pursuits.

The village itself is on the original route of the old A9, now the A86, where hotels and coaching inns facilitated the needs of the travellers passing through.  The A9 now passes one mile to the east, but the hotels and amenities in the village still provide for the incumbent visitors.  These include:

  1. Pubs, hotels and cafes

  2. Texaco garage with a Spa store

  3. Well-stocked Co-op

  4. Visitor’s centre

  5. Post Office

  6. Cash point

The nearest bank is in Kingussie, 2 miles north.
